2008-9 Learning Goal

Students will communicate their awareness of  themselves and their place in the world through the fine arts.

.

What will our students learn to do?

1: Students will demonstrate their learning through visual art, dance, drama or music as well as through conventional academic assignments.

2: Students will set criteria and assess their own work using assessment for learning strategies.

3: Students will develop oral language skills by using A-B partner discussions to retell,

question and synthesize information.

.

Assessment tools and processes:

1: Student journals

2: Student led conferences

3: Teacher observation of student progress in relation to oral language learning outcomes.

4: Report Cards

The Challenge :

Will integrating fine arts activities into daily classroom routines and using assessment for learning strategies improve students ability to  describe their own learning and use oral language to re-tell, interpret,

analyse and share information?

Implementation Plan:

All students will participate fine arts activities integrated into the academic subject areas.

Teachers will use assessment for learning strategies to clarify learning intentions, set criteria, and allow students to assess their own work.

Each student will complete a Reflection Journal that will demonstrate understanding of learning outcomes and criteria, as well as a realistic self assessment of their own progress toward meeting the learning outcomes.
