About Us

General Information

W.E. Graham Community School is located in Slocan, 75 km north of Nelson, B.C.  We have a student population of approximately 60 students from Kindergarten to Grade Ten, with an Alternate Education Program that serves students to Grade 12. As a result of our population distribution we have a mix of multi-age classes where students are provided with lessons and learning activities that will assist in their individual growth at an appropriate level.

Our school has an outdoor education focus that is manifested at all grade levels.  Located near the breathtaking Valhalla mountain range, and on the Slocan Lake and River, our students participate in daily physical education, and partake in many school wide activities that promote environmental awareness, skill development, enjoyment, and stewardship of our environment.

School Philosophy
The philosophy of our school is oriented toward developing student responsibility.  We aim to develop responsible learners and school/community citizens. The staff believes that learning takes place most effectively in a positive, supportive atmosphere.  Children are encouraged to treat each other, their teachers, community members, the environment, school facilities and materials with respect, and to give their best effort each day.

The staff at W.E.Graham supports the Ministry of Education's goal of providing each student with the opportunity to develop to his/her full potential, in personal growth as well as academic achievement, not only as an individual, but also as a member of society. Parents are encouraged to be partners in their children's educational development and we work hard to maintain a climate of open and regular communication between home and school.
