STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

The Three R’s,
Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect Property
have become our guiding principles.

THE SCHOOL BEHAVIOUR TEAM

This team consists of representatives from the Erickson staff and may also include district personnel. Its purpose is to consult with staff, students and parents in order to problem solve and design a plan to ensure a student’s success in his/her academic and social needs. This team meets as needed, to establish goals, consequences and to monitor student progress.

LUNCH

The lunch eating time begins at 11:50 a.m.
Students are to clean up their area and remain in their seats until dismissed by the supervisor. In non-emergency situations students need permission to leave the classroom.
Students must use an "inside" voice.
Students are to take home any food that is not eaten.
Students are encouraged to go outside on fair weather days. On rainy or snowy days students will be permitted to stay in their classroom to do quiet activities approved by their teacher. Students who are not following the classroom/school rules will lose this privilege. Other lunch hour options include noon hour games, computer lab and library.

ASSEMBLIES

School-wide assemblies occur every two weeks with classes taking turn leading them Everyone (adults and students) attending assemblies are expected to demonstrate appropriate audience behavior, including:

  • enter and leave the gym quietly and respectfully
  • wait quietly for the assembly to start
  • stand at attention facing the flag during O Canada
  • focus your full attention on the person/people speaking or performing
  • show appreciation by clapping only (no whistling, hooting, etc.)

No one should walk out of an assembly/performance before it is over unless under an emergency situation (bathroom breaks should be taken care of BEFORE the assemblies and performances.

DRESS CODE

Good grooming, cleanliness and appropriate dress are important school concerns. Notwithstanding the value of individual choice in the selection of appropriate clothing to wear to school, EES encourages parents to discuss with their child(ren) the importance of good taste in the selection of clothing to be worn at school. The school setting is first and foremost a center for group learning; therefore what an individual does will impact others. Erickson Elementary School stresses the need for our students to dress appropriately and respectfully. For example, t-shirts, jackets, hats etc. must not have language, graphics, stickers, patches or logos that are offensive or that promote alcoholic beverages or alcoholic beverage companies. Clothing that bares the stomach, off the shoulder blouses, halter tops, tube tops, tank tops and miniskirt are not appropriate clothing at school.

CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS

Acceptable conduct is demonstrated by:

  • Respecting oneself, others and the school facility
  • Engaging in responsibility behaviour in all learning and school activities
  • Helping to ensure that the school environment is a safe, caring and inclusive place for all to learn
  • Modeling respectful and responsible behaviour at school and in the community
  • Unacceptable conduct is demonstrated by behaviours that:
  • Interfere with the learning and teaching environment of school members
  • Create an unsafe or dangerous learning environment
  • Demonstrate a lack of caring for oneself, others and the school community
