Inference

What is inference?

"the reasoning involved in drawing a conclusion or making a logical judgment on the basis of circumstantial evidence and prior conclusions rather than on the basis of direct observation "

Understanding what isn’t already stated.  It is based on prior knowledge.      Reading between the lines.

A Quick Strategy

1.Choose your picture book

2.Children tell you what they see (FACTS)

3.Next step is to share inferences justify their suggestion.

this is an easy way to help students discriminate between what they see (fact) and what they think (infer)
